Covidien to help raise awareness of varicose veins

22nd November 2011

Covidien has announced its participation in a new scheme to help raise awareness of varicose veins and the importance of seeking treatment for the disease.

The medical technology firm is allying with the Society for Vascular Surgery, American Venous Forum and American College of Phlebology to launch the campaign, entitled Rethink Varicose Veins.

It will aim to engage consumers with various educational activities and will be supported by the introduction of a dedicated online hub, which provides important information on the condition for physicians and patients.

This campaign is intended to improve understanding of a condition that can become progressively more serious if left untreated.

Dr Julianne Stoughton, spokesperson for Rethink Varicose Veins, said: "We believe the time is right for an educational campaign to help elevate awareness among patients and encourage dialogue with a vein specialist."

This week, the company also announced plans to acquire BARRX Medical, a specialist in treating Barrett's oesophagus using bipolar radiofrequency ablation devices.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801217759-ADNFCR
