Daiichi Sankyo establishes Irish subsidiary

27th November 2008

Daiichi Sankyo has announced it has set up a subsidiary in Ireland.

As part of the effort, 14 employees from the cardiometabolic staff at Merck Serono will be transferred to the headquarters, in Dublin.

It will also see the naming of the subsidiary as Daiichi Sankyo Ireland and will see the marketing of Evista (Raloxifen), Cardicor (Bisoprolol) and Emcro (also Bisoprolol) in the country.

The company will also sell the diabetes drug Glucophage (Metformin), as part of its collaboration with Merck Serono.

Reinhard Bauer, chief executive of Daiichi Sankyo Europe, said entering the market in Ireland is an “important step” for the company’s expanding of its presence in the continent.

He added: “By setting up the Irish subsidiary and integrating the personnel of Merck Serono in Ireland, we are laying the foundation for the successful marketing of our future products in this country as well.”

Mr Bauer went on to say the company plans to grow its range of products in the country, including cardiovascular medications that emerge from the company’s own research.

Founded in Japan, 1894 saw the launch of the digestive enzyme Taka-Diastase by Sankyo.

It then joined with Daiichi Pharmaceutical in 2005 and started operations of its European organisation, Daiichi Sankyo Europe, in 2006.
