Daiichi Sankyo expresses wish to purchase Zenotech stake

20th January 2009

Daiichi Sankyo has said its board has approved the launch of an offer to purchase a stake in Zenotech Laboratories.

The bid – for 20 per cent of the company – follows its purchase of a controlling stake in Ranbaxy last year.

The organisation did not comment on how much it expected to spend in order to purchase the stake.

Last month, Daiichi Sankyo announced the launch of ActHib.

The product is a paediatric jab, used as a preventative method for dealing with infections that are a result of haemophilus influenza type b (Hib).

Already used in more than 100 countries, the vaccine is manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur and its license holder is Sanofi Pasteur Daiichi Sankyo Vaccines.

Hib can enter the body through either the nose or throat and can cause meningitis, sepsis and infection of the epiglottis.

Daiichi Sankyo employs approximately 16,237 people and has capital of 50 billion yen (387.421163 million pounds).
