Dako to distribute kidney injury test from BioPorto

Dako has signed a deal to distribute BioPorto's new tool for measuring acute kidney injury.

The cancer diagnostics firm intends to bring The NGAL Test to the world market from January 2011 after agreeing terms with Danish biomarker company BioPorto.

Christina Lindved Turner, vice-president of the reagent partnership division at Dako, said kidney disease diagnosis is already a key area for the organisation.

"With access to The NGAL Test we will now get an opportunity to offer our customers a popular new product, which both we and our customers look forward to," she added.

The distribution agreement was also welcomed by BioPorto chief executive Thea Olesen, who pointed out that Dako has access to markets in more than 80 countries.

Designed for use on chemistry analysers from manufacturers such as Roche and Abbott, The NGAL Test can produce results in ten minutes using only a few drops of blood or urine.

News of Dako's partnership with BioPorto follows the company's recent announcement of an alliance with Quintiles to develop personalised medicine.
