Danaher’s Leica Biosystems to Acquire StatLab

Danaher’s Leica Biosystems has agreed to acquire StatLab Medical Products, a leading global manufacturer of anatomic pathology consumables, from private equity backers Linden Capital Partners and Audax Private Equity. Announced on 14 July 2026, the deal extends Leica Biosystems’ position across the histology workflow at a moment when AI-enabled cancer diagnostics adoption is accelerating. Financial terms were not disclosed. The transaction is expected to close by the end of 2026.

StatLab has been a supplier to anatomic pathology laboratories for more than 50 years, with a broad portfolio spanning the pre-analytical and analytical histology workflow. Its product range covers specimen collection, tissue processing, slide preparation and staining, positioning it as one of the largest independent consumables players in the pathology sector. The acquisition gives Leica Biosystems significant additional consumables depth, complementing its existing instrument and digital pathology portfolio and creating a more integrated end-to-end offering across the anatomic pathology laboratory.

Gustavo Perez Fernandez, Group Executive of Danaher’s Diagnostics business and President of Leica Biosystems, framed the combination as a route to solving some of the hardest problems in healthcare by helping laboratories achieve the consistency, standardisation and quality required to adopt AI-enabled cancer diagnostics at scale. Consumables consistency has been repeatedly flagged by digital pathology developers as a limiting factor for algorithm generalisation across laboratory sites. The acquisition follows Danaher’s continued push to concentrate diagnostics investment around AI-enabled cancer workflows, and increases competitive pressure on Roche Diagnostics, Sysmex and Sakura Finetek across the anatomic pathology consumables and instrumentation market.

The commercial signal is a growing recognition that digital pathology’s promise depends heavily on consumables and workflow consistency, not just instrument or software capability. By locking in a large independent consumables supplier ahead of broader digital pathology adoption, Danaher secures more of the anatomic pathology value chain and tightens competitive pressure across a segment that has historically been fragmented.
