Danone’s climate goals receive SBTi approval

Danone has announced that its sustainability goals have been officially validated by the influential Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Following a review, SBTi –  a collaboration between CDP, the World Resources Institute,
the World Wide Fund for Nature and the UN Global Compact – has approved Danone's greenhouse gas reduction targets as being in line with the goal of keeping global warming below two degrees C.

The firm is working to make its full value chain carbon neutral by 2050, which will involve cutting full-scope emission intensity by 50 percent by 2030, and achieving a 30 percent absolute reduction of scope 1 and 2 emissions by the same point.

Between 2008 and 2016, Danone achieved a 50 percent reduction in emissions intensity on its value chain, excluding agriculture but including operations, packaging and logistics, and the company is keen to continue this momentum.

SBTi leader Alberto Carrillo Pineda said: "By setting a science-based target, Danone is positioning itself to thrive in the low-carbon transition, future-proof growth and seize the opportunities that await."
