Dechra launches canine USMI treatment in Ireland
Dechra has announced the launch of a new therapy for canine urethral sphincter mechanism incompetence (USMI) in the Republic of Ireland.
The phenylpropanolamine-based Urilin is designed to treat urinary incontinence associated with USMI and functions by stimulating the contraction of the urethral sphincter, thus preventing inadvertent leakage.
Available in two pack sizes, the drug is being sold as a syrup with a dropper system for ease of dosing, meaning it can easily be incorporated into the dog's diet.
It is part of the company's Veterinary Essentials product range and is already in widespread use among veterinary professionals in the UK, who have endorsed it as being cost-effective, easy to use and fast-acting.
Alison Casey, business development manager for Dechra in Ireland, said: "We are delighted to launch this product to the Irish market. It is extremely effective in managing what can be a distressing condition … but one which can be effectively treated."
Earlier this month, the company announced plans to organise a series of UK continuing professional development sessions over the coming weeks on the topic of canine hyperadrenocorticism.
