Dechra states it will grow due to new treatments

Dechra will continue to grow in 2009 due to its strong pipeline of new treatments becoming available on the market, it has been reported.

Revenues for the pet drug company for the six months ending December 2008 increased by 23 per cent to 173.2 million pounds.

Ian Page, chief executive officer of the business, told Reuters that Dechra is in a good position to continue this expansion because it produces treatment for sick animals, rather than more optional products such as flea treatment.

“In the top pharmaceuticals that we license and develop, I doubt if we’ll see a slowdown because the pet is part of the family – people will continue to treat the pet when it is sick,” he told the news agency.
Mr Page concluded that the firm would concentrate on developing and marketing remedies, rather than attempt to expand through merging with other companies.
He explained there are no longer many acquisition targets left in the sector, as the industry is dominated by large pharmaceutical companies.
Dechra operates in ten European countries.
