Dentsply Sirona’s SIROLaser Blue handpiece wins Red Dot design award

Dentsply Sirona has announced that its SIROLaser Blue handpiece has won a Red Dot award in the life science and medicine category.

Following an assessment by international design experts, the device was presented with a prize for the second time this year, having previously earned an iF Design Award back in February.

The Red Dot awards are prestigious accolades that have been awarded to products, design concepts and communication designs since 1954. A record 5,214 products from 57 nations were assessed this year, spanning 31 categories.

Jurors praised the Sirona device for "the elegant feel of its flowing, elongated shape and stainless steel finish".

Designed to make treatment less painful for patients, SIROLaser Blue minimises the need or local anaesthetic and lessens the amount of wound pain and scar formation.

The blue light of the Sirona SIROLaser Blue, with a wavelength of 445 nanometres, is absorbed by haemoglobin around 100 times better than infrared light, offering fast, precise and atraumatic incisions for soft tissue surgery.
