DePuy thanked by doctor for new knees and hips

DePuy Orthopaedics, a Johnson & Johnson company, has been thanked by a west African doctor following her hip and knee replacement treatment in the US.

The company reports that Dr Olabisi Claudius-Cole has travelled to Warsaw, Indiana to speak with employees at DePuy on her successful treatment.

Running a 21-bed clinic in Sierra Leone, Dr Cole conducts a range of medical procedures, from Aids counselling and treating bullet wounds to delivering babies by caesarean section.

Her ability to treat patients was at risk as a result of arthritis-damaged knees and hips, before their replacement with Sigma Rotating Platform Knees and the Pinnacle Acetabular Cup System with Ultamet XL Metal-on-Metal Bearings respectively.

Dr Cole said: “I came to the US with nothing and expected nothing.

“I leave now with new knees, new hips, new friends and new inspiration to help people who are less fortunate.”

She added that she would pass on to others the “blessing” that Dr Wayne Goldstein and the Rush North Shore Medical Centre had bestowed up on her through her treatment.

Earlier this month, DePuy announced the launch of its Ci essential hip system software designed to provide enhancements in the field of computer-assisted hip replacement.
