Devika Bulchandan Works to Reduce Disparities and Inspire Momentum at Oglivy
Devika Bulchandan left her role as President in North America at McCann Worldgroup in 2021 following 26 of service across a range of roles. She then joined one of their competitors, Oglivy, where she has most recently been promoted to a new position at the company, Global Chief Executive Officer, in September of this year.
Bulchandani had spent 1 year and 7 months as Global President & CEO of North America at Oglivy prior to Andy Main proclaiming his resignation.
With the assistance of Main, Bulchandani reconstructed the face of global leadership at Ogilvy, including an increased level of diversity including a female focus.
Although Bulchandani decided against commenting on Main’s resignation, she will continue to serve as Chief Executive Officer of Ogilvy in North America until a replacement is selected.
Ogilvy’s worldwide strategy was developed with extensive collaboration between Bulchandani and Main, therefore in his absence there is unlikely to be significant alterations.
Commenting on Oglivy’s position as the only firm under holdings company WWP to remain independent, Bulchandani said that “there is no need to merge anything. We have the capabilities. What we needed was a shot of vitality.”
The company had not been showing the best performance as of recent, with the loss of big and long-term clients including Chanel, and the termination of a 50-year partnership with American Express.
However, apparently many areas of the business remain to produce and predict “healthy growth,” with Ogilvy Health achieving a revenue increase of over 10%.
As a Desi Indian woman, Bulchandani’s views it as her personal obligation to utilise her position to fight for representation and have an influence on reducing disparities outside of the advertising profession.
“[People] want to come work at a place that has a sense of momentum, where great work is happening, where you feel like you’re part of a winning team.”
