Devon’s Dental Uptake in Decline

In the last 2 years, fewer than 4 out of 10 patients in Devon have visited an NHS dentist.

This is a decrease from the 5.4 out of 10 individuals who accessed a dentist on the NHS in 2016/17.

The national suggestion is for minors is to visit a dentist annually, but just 4 out of 10 in Devon did this in 2021.

In order to give immediate assistance to individuals suffering from intense tooth pain, the Liberal Democrats are urging the Government to announce an NHS winter rescue plan to address these problems.

This would entail taking urgent steps to shorten the lengthy ambulance wait times and expedite access to treatment for 7 million individuals waiting on NHS attention.

Democrat MP for Tiverton & Honiton, Richard Foord, explained the problem: “Far too many people across Devon are struggling to see an NHS dentist and get the affordable dental care they need.

“We’ve reached a breaking point in this crisis. NHS dentist appointments are becoming almost impossible to obtain and some practices are shutting their doors to NHS patients all together, and yet the government is totally missing in action.”
