9th June 2010

DiaSorin has completed a deal to purchase the Murex line of HIV, HCV and HBV diagnostic products from Abbott.

It will also include the transfer of a number of manufacturing assets related to the products, which are located in the UK and South Africa.

DiaSorin stated that the addition of the Murex line, which generated around $66.7 million during the year ending December 31st 2009, will help it to “add new depth to its product portfolio”.

The company added: “This acquisition ? further strengthens [DiaSorin’s] leadership position in infectious disease and opens the door for attractive growth opportunities in the future.”

Last month, DiaSorin published its financial results for the first quarter of 2010, reporting a 21.4 per cent year-on-year revenue increase thanks in part to higher sales of its Clia and Liaison product lines.
