DoH appoints new national clinical director

Professor Keith Willet has been appointed as national clinical director for trauma care at the Department of Health (DoH), it has been announced.

According to the government body, the role’s creation follows a report on the NHS by Lord Darzi – named High Quality Care For All – which set out to improve the quality of care in the organisation.

Commenting, health secretary Alan Johnson said Mr Willet’s appointment would allow for further improvements in the planning of trauma services and specialist centres.

He continued to note such care “needs to be recognised as a specialist form of medicine”.

“Patients who are severely and critically injured rely on the expertise of many specialist professionals – from critical care doctors to neurosurgeons,” Mr Johnson added.

Last month, the DoH announced Sir Christopher Edwards was to become the first chairman of a new body.

The organisation’s aim is to improve aspects of workforce planning, education and training in England, the government body stated.
