Dorset under-5s ‘to receive H1N1 vaccinations’

Infants under the age of five in Dorset will be vaccinated against swine flu, it has been reported.

Despite a disagreement that erupted recently over the workload of GPs should the extra service be introduced, NHS Dorset and local doctors have resolved to offer the vaccines.

On a national scale, the widespread vaccination of infants has not yet been confirmed, after the British Medical Association and government failed to reach an agreement on the subject.

Nikki Osborne, NHS Dorset’s deputy director of commissioning for primary care, commented: “This is testament to the excellent standard of general practice in Dorset and the good relationships between the practices, NHS Dorset and the Local Medical Committee.”

This news comes after a two-year-old, who had underlying medical conditions, dies in Northern Ireland earlier this week.

Michael McGimpsey, the current health minister, expressed his sympathy to the family of the infant.
