Doses have been distributed to the first members in a Phase 1 trial of AZD7442, a mixture of 2 monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) in developments for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19.
The trial, NCT04507256, is funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and will assess the tolerability, safety and pharmacokinetics of AZD7442. Furthermore, the trial will include as many as forty-eight healthy volunteers in the UK, aged eighteen to fifty-five years of age.
Executive Vice President at BioPharmaceuticals R&D, Mene Pangalos, stated: “This trial is an important milestone in the development of our monoclonal antibody combination to prevent or treat COVID-19. This combination of antibodies, coupled to our proprietary half-life extension technology, has the potential to improve both the effectiveness and durability of use in addition to reducing the likelihood of viral resistance.”
