Ecolab introduces new dispenser

28th November 2008

Ecolab has unveiled a new hand sanitiser dispenser.

Named FlexMount, the product allows patients closer access via its adjustable clamp that can attach to surfaces ranging from three-quarters to one and a half inches in diameter.

It can also turn for mounting on vertical or horizontal surfaces in the patient’s room, including bed rails, footboards, IV poles, carts and other equipment.

Dr Angela Dillow, vice-president of Infection Prevention’s Marketing segment within Ecolab Healthcare, said the use of hand sanitisers immediately prior to patient contact is an “important factor” in an attempt to control bacteria on the skin.

She added: “Hands can easily become recontaminated when doctors and nurses touch surfaces within the patient room and then touch the patient. Hand sanitisers can help reduce the risk of cross contamination, especially in high risk areas such as the NICU [Neonatal Intensive Care Unit] or ICU [Intensive Care Unit].”

Last week, Ecolab announced the sale of company shares by Henkel.

As a result, the company said it has entered into an agreement to acquire 11.3 million shares – totalling $300 million (195 million pounds) – using existing commercial paper and cash.

Ecolab had an investment in Henkel going back to 1989.

Based in Minnesota, US, the company was founded in 1923 and has more than 26,000 associates worldwide.
