Edelman ranked as world’s most successful PR firm

Edelman was the most financially successful PR agency in the world in 2010, according to new rankings compiled by The Holmes Report.

The marketing sector publication placed the company at number one in the Holmes Report 250 Global Ranking of PR Firms list for 2011, after it was able to generate more than $530 million (329.7 million pounds) in global fee income last year.

This represented an increase of almost 20 percent compared to the year before and was enough to secure Edelman the top spot, with other leading firms such as Weber Shandwick, Fleishman-Hillard and Burson-Marsteller also on the list.

Edelman's growth was noted as having outstripped most other PR operations in the last year and was indicative of a strong performance for independent marketing agencies in 2010.

The year before, the company managed a third-place ranking, with the remainder of the top ten staying consistent with the 2010 list.

Next month, the agency will be appointing Ed Williams, the BBC director of communications, as its UK chief executive officer.
