Eisai to present clinical data for E2609 at Alzheimer’s conference

Eisai is preparing to present the first data from studies of E2609, the BACE (beta-site amyloid precursor protein-cleaving enzyme) inhibitor it is developing as a treatment for Alzheimer's disease.

The company announced that clinical results will be unveiled during oral sessions at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC), which begins in Vancouver on July 14th.

In a statement, Eisai said that Alzheimer's "remains an area with a large number of unmet medical needs".

The firm added that it is also pursuing the development of a novel monoclonal antibody known as BAN2401 and other compounds as it seeks to create next-generation treatments for the most common form of dementia.

Leading dementia experts from around the world are due to attend the AAIC, which will run until July 19th.

The Alzheimer's Society estimates that one in every 14 people over the age of 65 is affected by the condition.
