EKF Diagnostics launches new diabetic biomarker test

EKF Diagnostics has announced the launch of its new Stanbio Chemistry Glycated Serum Protein (GSP) LiquiColor assay, which provides a two-to-three week indicator of average blood glucose levels in diabetic patients.

Closing the information gap between daily blood glucose testing and longer-term HbA1c readings, this new diabetic biomarker test offers greater specificity, accuracy and reliability than the older non-enzymatic fructosamine NBT method.

GSP serves as an accurate intermediate marker of glycaemia in instances where HbA1c may be of limited value, such as pregnancy, reduced red blood cell lifespan and haemodialysis.

The test utilises the specificity of fructosyl-amino oxidase to eliminate inaccuracies caused by non-glycated protein, reducing substances which significantly interfere with the NBT fructosamine method.

Al Blanco, business unit director for EKF Diagnostics' central lab, said: "GSP can provide a helpful supplement to glucose and HbA1c testing, when assessing glycaemic control for the management of diabetic patients, especially in cases where HbA1c may be inaccurate."

Last month, the company announced a new partnership with Angle, which aims to investigate the potential benefits of combining their technologies for use in liquid biopsy applications.
