Elan appoints new board members

Elan has announced the retirement of one of its board members and the appointment of two new non-executive directors.

The neuroscience-based biotechnology company paid tribute to the “outstanding contributions and dedicated service” of Laurence Crowley after 12 years at a member of the board.

Chairperson Kyran McLaughlin said of the appointments of Patrick Kennedy and Donal O’Connor: “We are delighted ? their experience and enthusiasm for the company and its objectives will add greatly to the operations of our board.”

Mr Kennedy is the chief executive of Paddy Power, a London Stock Exchange listed international betting and gaming group, and has previously worked for Greencore Group, McKinsey & Company and KPMG.

Mr Donal O’Connor was most recently a senior partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Ireland and is a member of their global board; in addition, he is former chairperson of the Eurofirms Board, chairperson of the Dublin Docks Development Authority, a member of the board of the Irish Auditing and Accounting Supervisory Authority and the administrator of Icarom.

Last month Elan posted its 2008 first quarter results, highlights of which included a 22 per cent increase in revenues.
