Elanco reports positive clinical trial data for Comfortis

21st July 2014

Elanco has announced results from a new study that demonstrates the efficacy of its flea control product Comfortis among felines.

The study examined the benefits provided by the spinosad-based tablets when administered to a colony of 15 indoor cats naturally infested with fleas. Comfortis was found to be 100 percent effective, with no adult fleas found on any cat between days 15 and 90 of the trial period.

A greater level of palatability was also observed than was previously reported in clinical trials, while there were no side effects in any of the cats.

As such, it was deemed that Elanco's therapy can be used as a standalone treatment for mild to moderate flea infestation in an indoor environment without the need for environmental insecticides or anti-inflammatory treatment.

Veterinary professional David Grant said: "With its high effectiveness and ease of administration spinosad is an obvious choice for a veterinary dermatologist wishing to rule in or out flea allergy dermatitis."

Earlier this year, a separate study revealed that 90 percent of leading European dermatologists regard Comfortis as their first choice for flea control, thanks to its fast action, effectiveness and duration of activity.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801736649-ADNFCR
