Eli Lilly presents new Triton-Timi 38 subanalysis

Eli Lilly has announced the findings of the latest subanalysis of the Triton-Timi 38 clinical trial comparing prasugrel with clopidogrel.

The company said that prasrugrel was shown to significantly reduce new or recurrent heart attacks in acute and longer-term settings in patients following percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) when compared to clopidogrel.

Results from the analysis were presented this week to the European Society of Cardiology in Munich, Germany.

The study involved 13,608 patients with acute coronary syndrome managed with PCI.

Prasrugrel is an investigational orally-administered antiplatelet agent that operates by blocking the P2Y12 adenosine diphosphate receptor on the platelet surface to inhibit their activation and aggregastion.

David Morrow, associate professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, said: “In this new sub-analysis of Triton-Timi 38, we found that the reduction of heart attacks seen with prasugrel compared with clopidogrel was consistent across the spectrum of heart attacks based on type, timing and magnitude.”

Earlier in the conference. Eli Lilly and Daiichi Sankyo released positive results of a head-to-head study comparing the two compounds as a treatment to reduce cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes.
