Eli Lilly receives National Urban League award

Eli Lilly has been selected to receive the National Urban League’s (NUL) Corporate Leadership Award in recognition of its outreach efforts to diverse communities.

The pharmaceutical company was honoured by the civil rights organisation following the delivery of relevant healthcare information to assorted groups and communities.

In particular, Lilly was acknowledged for its work in direct partnership with the NUL, where the company worked on projects addressing health disparities, disease awareness and prevention and encouragement of mental health issues.

This year also saw Lilly and the NUL work together on the ‘Remarkable: That’s You’ campaign which encourages African Americans and their families to adopt a more healthy lifestyle.

Lilly delivered a series of workshops promoting the benefits of being active, eating a nutritious diet and seeking medical advice.

Sidney Taurel, chairman and chief executive officer at Lilly, accepted the award and expressed the company’s honour in receiving such an accolade.

“Lilly is dedicated to improving lives by providing healthcare tools and resources to empower diverse communities to lead healthier lives,” he confirmed.

Earlier this month, Lilly announced that, together with corporate partners BD and Bayer Diabetes Care, it would sponsor a new four-year initiative to address the needs of over 40 million diabetes sufferers in India.
