Elsevier acquires medical journal The Ocular Surface
Elsevier has announced the acquisition of The Ocular Surface, a new medical science journal that it will begin publishing from January 2012 onwards.
The peer-reviewed publication focuses on the external eye and vision, offering analysis of groundbreaking work in laboratory science, clinical science and clinical practice.
Covering areas such as ophthalmology, optometry, genetics, molecular biology and pharmacology, the journal has been given an impact factor of 3.103 by Thomson Reuters and has ranked as one of its top ten ophthalmology publications in the Journal Citation Reports for the last three years.
The Ocular Surface's editor-in-chief Gary Foulks said Elsevier's acquisition of the publication will help to raise its standards further.
Nancy Axelrod, executive publisher at Elsevier, added: "This premier journal represents innovative, high-quality content and is an excellent addition to our leading ophthalmology journals programme."
Earlier this month, the company expanded its offering further with the acquisition of specialist software company Quosa.
