Elsevier announces partnership with Geological Society of London
Elsevier, a leading provider of scientific information products and services, has announced a partnership with the Geological Society of London (GSL).
The deal will mean that the firm's Geofacets customers will be able to access geo-referenced maps from the GSL's Lyell Collection.
Geofacets, which is a top research tool for geoscientists, will provide more than 165,000 of the society's maps to Elsevier customers; maps which were brought together in 2007 to mark the organisation's 200th anniversary.
The Lyell Collection includes key industry-specific journals, such as the Journal of the Geological Society and Petroleum Geoscience.
Edmund Nickless, executive secretary of the GSL, said the society has continually searched for new ways to share the knowledge and understanding it has accrued about the Earth.
"So when we learned about Geofacets from our colleagues at Elsevier, we recognised the value of this collaboration," he added.
Friso Veenstra, director of market development from Elsevier, commented that the partnership represents the changing face of research in the oil and gas exploration industry.
