Elsevier journal editor wins ambassador for epilepsy award

Elsevier has announced that Dr Steven Schachter, editor-in-chief of its journal Epilepsy and Behaviour, has been awarded a prize honouring his work in furthering epilepsy research.

Dr Schachter has been presented with an ambassador for epilepsy award by the International Bureau for Epilepsy (IBE) and the International League against Epilepsy (ILAE), a lifetime achievement accolade recognising contributions made throughout his career.

This prize is awarded every two years and reflects peer recognition of recipients' achievements at an international level, with winners receiving a scroll signed by the IBE and ILAE presidents, as well as a pin bearing the image of a candle.

Dr Schachter noted that many other members of the Epilepsy and Behaviour editorial board have received this honour, including Dr Andres Kanner, who has been recognised this year alongside Dr Schachter.

"I am privileged to work closely with them to further advance the understanding of the behavioural aspects of epilepsy and the care of patients," he said.

This month also saw Elsevier present a number of young scientists in South Africa with awards, as part of a scheme conducted in cooperation with the National Research Foundation.
