Elsevier Science takes ten PROSE Awards

Elsevier Science has scored a raft of accolades in this year's American Publishers Awards for Professional and Scholarly Excellence (PROSE Awards).

These included the top honour, the RR Hawkins Award – which comprises a cash prize of $10,000 (6,000 pounds) – for S Barry Cooper and Jan van Leeuwen's book Alan Turing: His Work and Impact.

Elsevier Science also scooped the Best in Physical Sciences and Mathematics prize for the publication, as well as taking the Best in Reference Works award for Epigenetic Regulation in the Nervous System: Basic Mechanisms and Clinical Impact, by David Sweatt, Michael Meaney, Eric Nestler and Schahram Akbarian.

Additionally, it was honoured in the Environmental Science category thanks to Pavel Povinec, Katsumi Hirose and Michio Aoyama's work Fukushima Accident: Radioactivity Impact on the Environment.

2013's PROSE Awards attracted a 535 entries in more than 40 categories, making it the sixth consecutive year in which a record-breaking number of candidates have been judged.
