Elsevier’s SciVerse Scopus win REF data provider contract
Elsevier's SciVerse Scopus database has been chosen for a new data provision arrangement with the UK's four higher education funding bodies.
The system has been selected as the sole bibliometric provider for the 2014 Research Excellence Framework (REF), a new setup that will assess the quality of research in UK higher education institutions.
Elsevier will be supplying automated matching services between submitted publications and associated metadata and citations in the Scopus database, with updates to be provided in real time.
Niels Weertman, vice-president of SciVal at Elsevier, said this will make the REF process more manageable for institutions and assessment panels.
He added: "Besides bibliometric services, both the submission and assessment processes will be supported by dedicated tools and helpdesk services at Elsevier."
This comes after SciVerse Scopus was selected as the sole citation provider for the Excellence in Research for Australia assessment for 2012 earlier this month.
