Extra funding to reduce red tape for NHS nurses

The NHS is to receive additional funding to help reduce the red tape faced by nurseries and midwives.

Prime Minister David Cameron revealed the service will be given an extra £140 million to ease the bureaucracy burden for these workers and ensure they are able to make use of all the latest technology.

It is also hoped the money will be used to make sure advanced radiotherapy treatment is available for all cancer patients.

Mr Cameron spoke of the plans during a visit of Oxford's John Radcliffe hospital, explaining the move should result in nurses and midwives spending more time at the bedside of their patients.

"We're the only party … who said 'whatever else we have to do, whatever other cuts we have to make, we are not cutting the NHS budget, we're increasing it'."

In addition, £40 million will also be used to help with the development of leadership skills for ward sisters and community team leaders.
