Ferring licenses Ligand’s OmniAb platform for drug discovery

2nd February 2018

Ferring has announced a new worldwide licence agreement with Ligand Pharmaceuticals to support the discovery of new human monoclonal antibody therapies.

The  worldwide license agreement will give Ferring access to Ligand's OmniAb platform for the identification of human monoclonal antibodies for a range of indications, including reproductive medicine and women's health, urology and gastroenterology.

OmniAb produces highly diversified, fully human antibody repertoires optimised in vivo to maximise therapeutic efficacy and reduce immunogenicity. It is expected that the deal will strengthen Ferring's biologics pipeline.

Ligand is eligible to receive annual platform access payments, development and regulatory milestone payments, as well as tiered royalties for each product developed by Ferring that is based on an OmniAb antibody.

Armin Metzger, senior vice-president and head of global pharmaceutical research and development at Ferring Pharmaceuticals, said: "This agreement expands Ferring's growing capabilities in biologics and broadens our historical focus on peptides, opening up significant opportunities for discoveries that will help patients to live better lives."
