Forest Laboratories announces positive Savella results

Forest Laboratories and Cypress Bioscience have revealed that usage of Savella (milnacipran HCI) can result in fibromyalgia patients experiencing less pain and physical discomfort.

Administered in 100 mg doses at 50 mg twice a day, Savella demonstrated significant and clinically meaningful concurrent improvements in pain, patient global assessment and physical function.

Savella is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine dual reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) that was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) earlier this year for the management of fibromyalgia.

Lead investigator of the study and psychiatry professor Lesley Arnold stated: “Fibromyalgia is a common, chronic pain disorder that can be associated with an array of debilitating symptoms, so it is important that treatments manage the multiple symptoms of fibromyalgia and improve function.”

Meanwhile, Forest Laboratories revealed last month that two phase III trials into the use of its pneumonia treatment ceftaroline produced successful outcomes.
