Forest Laboratories to present data on COPD treatment

11th May 2010

Forest Laboratories is to present phase III clinical trial results for a new treatment for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at an industry conference this month.

The pharmaceutical company will present data on aclidinium bromide, an inhaled muscarinic antagonist developed in conjunction with Almirall, at the American Thoracic Society International Conference in New Orleans.

This data will demonstrate key findings on the safety and efficacy of the drug when compared to tiotropium, as well as highlighting different administration methods, dosage options and potential patient age groups.

In addition, Forest and Almirall will also be presenting data on LAS100977, an earlier-stage developmental treatment for asthma.

Lawrence Olanoff, president and chief operating officer of Forest Laboratories, said: “The data presented here reinforces the commitment we have to the development of useful treatments for important respiratory diseases.”

Earlier this month, Forest Laboratories published data from two phase III clinical trials of its constipation drug linaclotide, demonstrating its effectiveness when compared to placebo.
