Frontier Medical Cuts Waste by 4.7 tonnes a Year

5th May 2023

In an effort to drastically reduce waste, Frontier Medical Group has modified how one of its primary products is manufactured.

Frontier’s Repose range of air-inflated pads work to assist patients in avoiding pressure sores by evenly dispersing weight and alleviating the strain on soft tissue.

When it was launched back in 2005, the Respose Pump was produced with 2 layers, blue on the exterior and white on the interior. It is used to blow up their pads.

As part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability and ecological responsibility, the pump will be altered and made in just one colour, which will also reduce the cost of production.

Frontier produces a quarter of a million of these products annually. Each year, the firm will save 4.7 tonnes of material by switching from the blue and white scheme to just blue.

Additionally, the adjustment will reduce waste by one quarter and increase output efficiency by 10%.

Frontier’s COO, Matthew Bambery, explained that they “are looking at all of our processes to establish where we can make waste and energy savings while still providing cutting-edge health enhancing products to a very high standard. By minimising our environmental impact, we are helping to improve health and wellbeing for everyone.”
