Future Health Fights for Disease Prevention, Treatment, and Diagnosis

9th November 2022

Our Future Health, which has received close to £0.25 billion in public, private, and non-profit finance, intends to gather enough information to aid with early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of a variety of illnesses, such as cancer.

Prior to going nationwide, initial recruitment will concentrate on London, the West Midlands, Manchester, and West Yorkshire. The gathered information will ultimately be accessible for use in reputable research settings.

The aim is to create “a highly secure computing environment, where researchers can access and work with data subject to clear rules and monitoring, and very strict controls. The controls limit what data can be removed, to minimise the risk that an individual person can be identified”.

To gain access to the data, rigorous accreditation procedures will take place to ensure they meet the requirements for both data governance and cyber security.

In order to participate, volunteers must be prepared to reveal their medical history and complete questions about their lifestyle and health. However, they will gain an insight on their chances of having various medical problems.

According to Our Future Health, it has received £79 million from government-funded investment and £160 million from disease-related charities and life sciences firms.
