Galderma gets FDA approval for acne gel

Galderma Laboratories has announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the United States has approved Differin Gel 0.3 per cent, a treatment for moderately-severe acne.

The gel is a different form of Differin, a higher concentration version of the original 0.1 per cent topical retinoid.

“Differin is the number one prescribed topical acne product by dermatologists and new Differin Gel 0.3 per cent was developed in response to a need for more effective and well-tolerated treatment options to manage moderate to moderately-severe acne,” said Albert Draaijer, president, Galderma USA.

Mr Draaijer added that clinical studies carried out using Differin Gel 0.3 per cent show that it is capable of treating more severe acne, while “still offering the favourable tolerability profile” that Galderma says is expected of Differin.

Acne affects more than 80 per cent of young adults and teenagers, according to Galderma, and as much as 85 per cent of the US population.

Galderma is a joint venture between Nestle and L’Oreal, set up in 1981.
