GDC: 96% of UK patients are satisfied with dental care

19th March 2014

A survey undertaken on behalf of the General Dental Council (GDC) has discovered 96 percent of patients in the UK who visit their dentist at least once per year are satisfied with the level of treatment they receive.

Conducted by Ipsos MORI, the poll of more than 1,600 subjects found confidence in both care and the regulation of the industry is high.

Tim Whitaker, director of policy and communications at the GDC, said: "The findings of this research will help to inform and influence our work in protecting patients."

More than three-quarters (78 percent) of patients confirmed their dental professionals gave them enough information regarding their treatment options during their last visit, in line with the 'Standards for the Dental Team'.

However, focus group research conducted as part of the study found numerous patients did not feel they had enough of an understanding of the dental treatments to judge the quality they received.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801704749-ADNFCR
