GDC study shows satisfaction with UK dental services

The General Dental Council (GDC) has published a new survey that demonstrates a high level of satisfaction with the standard of dental care on offer in the UK.

A pair of independent opinion surveys conducted by the organisation reveal that 94 percent of patients are confident in the dental treatment they receive, while 95 percent are satisfied.

The report also showed that the majority of UK dental patients believe the sector is well-regulated by the GDC and other bodies, and that they would be able to resolve any complaints they might have in a fair way.

However, it was also demonstrated that only 44 percent of patients take the time to check on the GDC website whether their local dentist is properly registered.

Evlynne Gilvarry, chief executive and registrar of the GDC, said: "The findings of this research will inform and influence our work in protecting patients."

This follows a separate survey from the GDC published earlier this month showing that complaints about private dental care have seen a 24 percent increase over the last year.
