GE Healthcare celebrates 500th MRI scanner order

GE Healthcare is celebrating the order of its 500th magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner.

The company, which specialises in medical technologies and services, said the system is a Signa HDe 1.5T model with a high-definition MR platform.

It was ordered by Summit Orthopaedic Associates because it was a “great fit”, said the buyer’s chief operating officer Lisa Lavin.

“The orthopedic eight-channel imaging capability is impressive and its low cost of ownership and energy savings is also appealing,” she added. “We look forward to the unit’s installation later this year.”

GE Healthcare’s system is also claimed to use efficient gradients while employing water-cooling technology and requiring about 41 per cent less energy than its predecessors.

It was used at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, where some 700 athletes were scanned with the model. During the same summer, it was the first of the company’s medical imaging products to be recognised as one of the best 1.5T MRI systems on the market in terms of energy efficiency, receiving the ecomagination title.
