GE Healthcare exhibits bone mineral density system

GE Healthcare has showcased its bone mineral density system designed to aid the detection and diagnosis osteoporosis. Known as the Lunar Prodigy Primo, the product was presented at the annual clinical meeting of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in San Diego last week.

The Primo uses the OneScan operation technique and the enCORExpress 6-Click user-interface to facilitate bone mineral density exams within six clicks, with a streamlined operating process and basic user interface.

While redesigned to better suit primary care situations, the Primo is based on the Lunar Prodigy industry standard reported to be the most precise means of testing bone mineral density to detect the increased risk of fractures in patients.

Dr Steven Klein, of Rheumatology Consultants, said: “The precision that the GE Lunar Prodigy series densitometers consistently provides has a positive impact on the care I give to my patients.”

He added that, by using the GE Lunar system, he is convinced that patients are receiving the highest available standard of bone density testing.

In November 2006, GE Healthcare announced plans to develop a system for measuring bone mineral density in obese patients weighing up to 450 pounds (204.1 kilograms).
