GE Healthcare installs nuclear cardiology systems

GE Healthcare has unveiled details of a new imaging system for use in the field of nuclear cardiology.

The firm announced that it had completed the first four installations of its cadmium zinc telluride-based Discovery NM 530c camera at facilities across the globe.

Incorporating the latest in alcyone technology, the units were described by the firm as "revolutionary" and are now a feature at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, as well as medical centres in Ottawa, Zurich and Pisa.

Dr Milena Henzlova, director of nuclear cardiology at Mount Sinai, said the Discovery NM 530c camera would have "a very positive impact".

"There is huge potential for improved efficiency, image quality and new applications," she added. "After 40 years of anger camera technology, it is exciting to be part of a new chapter in nuclear cardiology."

Earlier this year, GE Healthcare announced a research partnership with Brigham and Women’s Hospital at Harvard Medical School that would consider the field of positron emission tomography.
