GE Healthcare launches foetal heart rate monitoring initiative

A program to improve knowledge about foetal heart rate monitoring will be launched by GE Healthcare, it says.

Designed to enhance skills of physicians, midwives, nurses, resident and students in obstetrics, it has been developed in partnership with two experts in foetal monitoring.

It will stress the importance of using standardised HICHD terminology to describe, communicate and interpret abnormal heart rate readings.

Michael Reed, manager of GE Healthcare’s Global Education for Clinical Systems Service, said the training would teach professionals how to visually interpret what they are seeing.

“By reinforcing NICHD standardised definitions endorsed by AWHONN, ACOG and ACNM this program gives clinicians the tools they need to increase their knowledge,” he said.

GE Healthcare cited information from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organisations that said a lack of a common language to describe and interpret electronic foetal heart rate patterns can threaten patient safety.

Recently, GE Healthcare received accolades in the infant care equipment and services category of the latest Medical Equipment Customer Satisfaction Report from MD Buyline.
