GE Healthcare launches new additions to illustra line

GE Healthcare has announced the launch of a number of new products to its nucleaic acid purification and amplification products marketed under the illustra name.

These DNA purification kits have been designed for the delivery of best yield and purity for samples from a range of sources, including blood, cells, bacteria and animal tissue.

New products being launched include the plasmidPrep Midi Flow and plasmidPrep Mini Spin plasmid DNA purification kits, a wide range of genomic DNA purification kits and the GFX PCR DNA and Gel Band Purification kit for DNA clean-up.

Eric Roman, general manager of the genomic sciences business at the company, said: “This launch is part of GE Healthcare’s drive to simplify the DNA sample preparation workflow for research scientists.”

He added that these tools will aid scientists obtain top-quality pure genomic or plasmid DNA for research purposes.

GE Healthcare reports that these products will facilitate the preparation of DNA up to 50 per cent faster than before, without an adverse impact on yield or purity.

Earlier this week, GE Healthcare announced the acquisition of Wave Biotech to widen its portfolio of products and services for the production of antibodies, vaccines and other biopharmaceuticals.
