GE Healthcare receives CE Mark for Discovery IGS 730
GE Healthcare has been granted European CE Mark approval for its innovative and award-winning interventional X-ray system Discovery IGS 730.
The device is the first of its kind to adopt a design that is neither floor nor ceiling-mounted, offering the mobility of a C-arm combined with the power and image quality of a fixed system.
It uses a motorised laser-guided gantry with wide bore C-arm to deliver precise movements, fine control and customisable positioning, allowing clinicians to perform complex minimally invasive procedures.
This means cardiologists will no longer need to choose between the benefits of ceiling and floor-mounted systems, or trade patient access for room airflow and sterility.
Discovery IGS 730's revolutionary nature earned it a prize at the recent International Design Excellence Awards, organised annually by the Industrial Designers Society of America.
Hooman Hakami, president and chief executive officer for detection and guidance solutions at GE Healthcare, said: "We have had a very strong start and couldn't be more pleased with our customers' response to Discovery's capabilities. We have six global orders to date and over 100 inquiries for new Discovery systems."
