GE Healthcare recognised for green power purchases

GE Healthcare has been recognised for being a leading company when it comes to the purchasing of environmentally friendly power and its support of the Fortune 500 Green Power Challenge from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

According to the challenge, the agency had called on the largest firms in the US to cumulatively purchase over five billion kilowatt-hours of green power each year.

The EPA reports that the headquarters of GE Healthcare in Waukesha, Wisconsin has become the largest purchaser of renewable power in the state, buying almost 16 million kilowatt-hours of green electricity, equal to around ten per cent of the power purchased by the building.

Mark Colananni, head of global facilities and real estate at GE Healthcare, said: “GE Healthcare’s commitment to the environment, health and safety is embedded within our corporate vision and culture.

“This is a natural fit with our company-wide Ecomagination Initiative and our goal to be a good neighbour in Wisconsin.”

He added that the company sees its role as a global citizen extremely seriously, describing it as a key point of honour, responsibility and commitment.

In January 2007, GE Healthcare announced the launch of its Centricity business certified partner programme to widen access to its revenue-cycle technology for the optimisation of client business processes.
