GE Healthcare relaunches Optison in Europe

GE Healthcare has announced the reintroduction of its contrast agent Optison in a number of European territories, including the UK.

The diagnostic ultrasound contrast agent is specified for use in echocardiograms among patients with suspected or established cardiovascular disease, offering better visualisation of cardiac chambers and left ventricular endocardial border delineation.

It is available in a ready-to-use formulation and can be quickly prepared and administered, meaning it offers portability and flexible dosing benefits.

The product has already recorded more than 12 years of clinical use and has been administered more than one million times, with medical studies supporting its efficacy.

Debra Leeves, European marketing leader for medical diagnostics at GE Healthcare, said: "We are pleased that Optison is now available to cardiologists, sonography professionals, echocardiography laboratory staff and most importantly patients."

Last month, the company announced the launch of a new iPad version of Centricity Advance, its successful practice management software solution.
