GE Healthcare signs electronic health record agreement

GE Healthcare has announced that it has signed an agreement to extend the scope of its existing partnership with Intermountain Healthcare.

The collaboration will now also include clinical knowledge management, clinical process content and the development of standardised terminology to enhance the companies’ plans to develop an enterprise clinical information system for the improvement of patient care.

Intermountain had previously signed a collaboration agreement in 2005 to combine its knowledge in clinical informatics with GE Healthcare’s clinical software applications and market strength for the development of such a system.

Mark Dente, vice president of healthcare solutions for integrated IT solutions at GE Healthcare, said: “Today, the amount of time it takes for the widespread adoption of the latest medical treatments and protocols is entirely too long.”

He commented that IT could be better used to make advances in medical information more accessible and easier to implement by doctors, nurses and other relevant parties.

Last month, GE Healthcare announced the formation of a strategic partnership with Datamasters to expand its business intelligence capabilities. According to the terms of the deal, Datamaster will collect and simplify business data and processes for health professionals using its Precision.BI product.
