GE Healthcare to purchase Biosafe Group
GE Healthcare has announced the acquisition of Biosafe Group, thereby expanding its range of offerings for the cell therapy industry.
Biosafe is a leading supplier of integrated cell bioprocessing systems for the cell therapy and regenerative medicine industry, which represents a rapidly-growing market. The Swiss firm has a 20-year track record in the field of automated cell processing and provides applications for bioprocessing, regenerative medicine and stem cell banking.
Its proprietary products are designed to provide significant advantages over conventional processing tools, thanks to the implementation of closed fluid pathways, built-in traceability and single-use consumables.
The acquisition expands GE Healthcare's end-to-end offering of products, solutions and services for cell therapy customers and allows it to reach new markets, while complementing the business model of the firm's existing life sciences unit.
Kieran Murphy, chief executive officer for life sciences at GE Healthcare, said: "GE and Biosafe share a vision of an integrated approach to helping customers optimise every stage of their process to reduce production risks dramatically and increase access to these remarkable new medicines."
