GlaxoSmithKline and Save the Children launch Healthcare Innovation Award

2nd July 2014

GlaxoSmithKline and not-for-profit organisation Save the Children have relaunched an awards programme that provides funding to support innovation in the prevention of child mortality.

The companies have once again allied to organise the second annual Healthcare Innovation Award programme, established to identify and reward innovations in healthcare that have proven successful in reducing child deaths in developing countries.

From now until August 25th 2014, organisations can nominate examples of creative healthcare approaches they have discovered or implemented that have resulted in tangible improvements to survival rates among under-fives that are sustainable and have potential to be scaled-up and replicated.

Special interest and attention will be given this year to work that aims to increase the quality of, or access to, healthcare for newborns. A $1 million (582,570 pounds) prize pot is available for winning entrants.

Sir Andrew Witty, chief executive officer at GlaxoSmithKline, said: "Our work with Save the Children is a great example of how we can use our scientific expertise and reach to help improve health outcomes for people around the world."

The company also announced this week that it has filed for US regulatory approval of Breo Ellipta, its new therapy for asthma in patients aged 12 years and older.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801732661-ADNFCR
