GlaxoSmithKline gets go-ahead to market Tyverb in Europe

GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has been granted official permission to start marketing its Tyverb drug therapy in each of the 27 member countries of the European Union, it has been revealed.

The drug is otherwise referred to as lapatinib and is designed to form part of a treatment procedure for people suffering from advanced or metastatic breast cancer.

Bosses at GSK hailed the decision as one that will benefit thousands of women with aggressive breast cancer across Europe who have been desperately trying to treat their condition with the drugs currently on the market.

“These patients are in real need of alternative therapies and we at GSK are proud to make this important new treatment option available to them,” said Dr Paolo Paoletti, senior vice president and global head of oncology medicine development at the company.

GSK is based in the UK, has offices around the world and claims to account for around seven per cent of global pharmaceutical sales.
